Abstract

A stadium is an important facility to fill up sport activities such as football. This place becomes a supporting factor to reach professional and achievement. Professional football competition and the achievement will move slowly or could not be reached if there is not an appropriate supporting facility. Now in Indonesia, football in a good performance or professional level grows faster. It can be seen that there are many football clubs in region and national area developed in Indonesia. According to Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) the Kulon Progo region, there are 59 football clubs. All of this clubs are under Kulon Progo Football Association (or in Indonesia called PERSIKUP). They have an active competition in every season. Although there are many clubs and active competitions, Kulon Progo does not have an appropriate supporting facilities for the athletes to practice their skills and the football fans do not have a place where they can enjoy watching the competition. It is because Kulon Progo does not have any football stadium to support the sport activities there. The regional government have had a plan to build a stadium at Cangkring site unfortunately, until now there is not a new stadium built there. It makes the active competition in Kulon Progo usually uses fields spread around as the place they play football. In this country, there are many stadiums built in many regions include Yogyakarta. The example of stadiums built in Yogyakarta such as Sultan Agung Stadium located in Bantul region, Maguwoharjo Stadium located in Sleman region, and Mandala Krida Stadium as a historical stadium located in Yogyakarta. As a part of Yogyakarta, the requirement of stadium in Kulon Progo region is needed in order to support the physical exercises in Kulon Progo such as football. So that, this region can competes against others regions in sport especially football as a favorite sport in the world. In the development of architecture, the stadium building has made a change significantly. It shows a modern architecture such as building structure, an attractive and high technology facade, and some modern facilities that make a stadium comfortable for the athletes and the spectators. Because of that reason, Kulon Progo can be expected has a stadium with category B. It can support the football activities in this region both in professional field and club activities. It also can fulfill residents’ desire to support and enjoy the competition in their region.
