Abstract

Recent findings in health researches have stated that there is a significant correlation between food and human health. Some food, if eat routinly or excessive, are harmful for human body. Because of food and human body are integral parts of human life and the living theology is a theology about life, I think that situation can be looked as a context for doing a contextual theology. This thesis focus on theological consideration about eating pattern of some church’s members of Indonesian Christian Church Kayu Putih which become research’s subjects. I have a hypothesis that research’s subjects have eating pattern which tend to less health, which is assumed related with these three factors: (1) impression of two Biblical texts, namely Mark 7:18b-19 and Acts 10:9-16, that Christians have freedom to eat every food because there’re no more food prohibited; (2) an excessive body pleasure of food (or hedonism value); and (3) certain food cultures which have by research’s subject. To prove that assumption, I do literature research to sharpen theory which used to make an instrument of field research. And then I do field research consist of quantitative and qualitative research. Values that I found in field research, then be correlated with three theological themes that is human beings, body and food in Biblical perspective. I found that Bible have riches meaning about those themes which can be correlated with eating pattern of research’s subjects. From that correlation, I realize that the Christians should have flexibility in consume food for life. I hope this thesis can be a form of doing contextual theology in Indonesia that examine about food and human life.
