Abstract

Kotagede was a heritage and historical region in Yogyakarta that had already became tourism region. Silver craft is a icon in this region. A big part of society in Kotagede professional as silver craftsman. Not a little of craftsman used their own house in the deep of village for production and selling process. However , it is absolutely has an impact on their incomes, caused by their workplace located in deep of village, so it definitely will be hard to be exposed and accessed. Therefore, so important to design a gallery in strategic area that accommodate and show off the silver craft, and then their craft will be easy to be exposed and accessed. Tranformation Design: The transformation design was derived from the initial idea that the silver craft gallery as place to accommodate and show off all kinds of silver crafts from silver craftsman who lived in deep of village, and moving them out into the strategic location in a gallery. Final Design: In the final stage, the main concept of the silver craft gallery is about ease to identify the function of building as a silver craft gallery by the visitors with employing transparent material. Façade become an important aspect to draw attention visitors by using some vertical and horizontal elements. All this make the concept of the gallery has something unique and become desirable place to visit. Conclusion: The initial purpose designing silver craft gallery of Kotegede is to support the incomes of silver craftsman who lived in deep of village. It also prevent crack of social interaction between craftsman who did their craft business in deep of village with others who did business in strategic location.
