Abstract

The existence of a library in society is a progress indicator or measure the level of the surrounding community. Therefore, the library is important as a spur to the development of knowledge for society. The population of Yogyakarta of the average increase, with a growth rate is the highest population. Therefore, the need for additional public facilities to improve the public service is required. Public libraries as a means of supporting education is still unbelievably few in number. Therefore,required the addition of public libraries as public facilities supporting education and development of knowledge societies in Yogyakarta. The design of public libraries in Yogyakarta Special Region aims to provide services quickly and accurately, to all ages with the means and facilities to suit the needs of users and follow the progress of science and technology. This library serves as a means of supporting education. Issue-From the results of the study population of Yogyakarta of the average increase, with education is very less. In addition, the library was not yet have the facilities and support facilities are adequate. Yet when it needed a library that can meet the needs of the community as a learning tool and a library is also appropriate to follow developments in science and technology. Final Design-Initially, the library distributes information through the medium of books. Therefore, the appearance can be identified from the facade of the building through the analogy of a book. Natural lighting can be entered through a window and a skylight (roof) on the building design. Building orientation to follow the orientation of buildings around the site. In addition, other considerations in determining the orientation of the building is the ease of attainment of the location and facilities in the site. Thus, the orientation of the library building is toward the highway. Circulation in the linear-shaped site that leads directly to the visitors. System structure on the building of the library using a reinforced concrete structural system capable of supporting heavy loads with its columns. Conclusion-From the initial idea for the design of the library until the results of design, through the design phase of the transformation process. Transformation of the design is done by the author for not out of the concepts that have been prepared on the initial idea.
