description: DESIGN IDEA  Bekasi Railway Station that had been built in Dutch Colonial Era served as station connecting Jakarta (Batavia) and some cities in West Java such as Cikampek and Cirebon. Bekasi Railway Station was improved by PJKA to accommodate Bekasi’s commuters. As time goes by, Bekasi Railway Station is no longer able to accommodate its passengers’ needs of railway activities or support facilities for parking lot and retail. It is mainly caused by a rising population growth in Bekasi and some of the station area that was meant for railway activities is used by retailer to sell their goods. Moreover, Bekasi Railway Station is also used as Goods Station (Coal) which is not relevant anymore with the condition of Bekasi as a part of Megapolitan Area that is located in a business and administrative center.  TRANSFORMATION DESIGN  At this stage, the author tries to solve existing problems, whether it is an environmental issues or a problem inside the station building  such as the lack of space to accommodate the passengers, the circulation around and inside the station building, and the lack of parking lot area to accommodate passengers’ or escorts’ vehicle which is increasing every year.  FINAL DESIGN  At the final design stage, a single building which will be able to accommodate all railway activities and its support facilities is built. The purpose is to improve the safety and comfort for the passengers, escorts, and also the employees of Bekasi Railway Station.  CONCLUSION  The design purpose of Bekasi Railway Station is to make a public building which serves as railway mass transportation center in Bekasi that mainly gives safety and comfort for the passengers, economic value for people who lives near the station and Bekasi residents in general. Furthermore, it also gives a landmark to the region.
